ESCURSIONI
ESCURSIONE IN MOTONAVE: Parco del Delta del PO
The river Po collects almost all the water flowing from the rivers in Northern Italy and the slow sedimentation has created the PO Delta Park. Man's wise intervention over the centuries has altered these flows helping the river Po itself to do its work. What is the known as the delta triangle today was once totally immersed in water. Over the centuries the frequent floods and slow erosion of the lagoon by the Po has been a constant worry to the Republic of Venice and so man has since fought to control the waters of this, the biggest river in Italy.
The Po Delta is constantly undergoing natural changes. It is an area where different habitats evolve side by side due to the different water depths and salinity : the dunes and the river, the woods and the reed marshes, the fresh water plains and the slat lagoons, the tidal banks and the strips of land covered with saltwort.
The traffic, noises and bustle of everyday life is easily forgotten when travelling the often empty country roads that run across this territory.
The Po Delta park is an enchanting place to visit. The many colours and shades of this extraordinary area leaves the visitor with contrasting memories of splendid sun and veiling fog. It's ever changing atmosphere and views are a relaxing answer to man's daily search for a balance with Nature.

Various destinations:
Foce del Po di Volano: Valle Bertuzzi stretches along the Acciaioli panoramic road behind Lido Volano, a reserve of around 2000 hectares. What strikes you the most about the lagoo is the profusion of islets and the parallel sandbars crossing from north to south, some covered with ilex woodland and vegetation typical of saltwater lagoons. It’s easy to see from the road and quite fascinating with its lines of flamingos and the panorama with which it rewards the visitor at sunset when the sun is reflected in the water.
Tis is a recently established nature reserve, consisting of sandbars formed by the sea’s deposit of sand and planted with trees in the mid 1930s to save the dunes from erosion. As well as the common ant the maritime pine, more resistant to the salinity of the ground, other species have been introduced like Ilex and Farnia Oak.
The Comacchio saltworks: Stretching for more than 600 hectares at the back of Lido degli Estensi, the Salina (saltwork) preserves a works developed in the Napoleonic Period, evidence of the importance of salt production in Comacchio since ancient times. The Salina is made up of canals, sandbars and pools of water and as soon as salt production stopped, the works became a nature reserve where we can view nature inadorne, most notably the flight of colonies of water birds, like our splendid pink flamingoes. The architectural details here are all linked to fishing: the building which today houses the visitor centre is an old casone, used by the fishermen for storage, as an observation point and an occasion temporary accommodation.
Comacchio a town on the water: Resplendent centre of the arts, the town of Comacchio is only 7 km from the beaches – the ease of getting there makes it too good to miss. A precious jewel softly framed by warm red brick and sparkling green canals, it was founded in the middle Ages and retained the character of a floating town – unconnected by land – until 1821. After the Estense era it passed to the papal States, who did a lot for its urban rebirth in the 17th century, with buildings, churches and bridges including the famous Trepponti. The town today is still outlined with water by a network of canals which serve as roads, by bridges connecting the quarters of the town and the terraced houses with their secret androni, long corridors leading to inner courtyards.
